Berlex Firsts
- Magnevist® (gadopentetate
dimeglumine), introduced in 1988, was the first
IV contrast agent for use in magnetic resonance
imaging.
- Fludara® (fludarabine phosphate),
the first therapy available for b-cell chronic lymphocytic
leukemia cell, launched in 1992.
- Betaseron® (interferon beta-1b),
launched in 1993, the first interferon therapy for
use in ambulatory patients with relapsing remitting
multiple sclerosis to reduce the frequency of clinical
exacerbation, a breakthrough for patients and their
caregivers.
- Climara® (estradial transdermal
system), the first transdermal (patch) seven-day
estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) product, launched
in 1995.
- Feridex IV® (fermoxides
injectible solution), the first U.S. liver specific
MRI imaging agent, launched in 1996.
- Yasmin® (drospirenone and
ethinyl estradiol tablets), the first and only oral
contraceptive to contain the unique progestin, drospirenone,
introduced in 2001.
